چکیده

The Tinius Olson Universal Testing machine (see Figure 1.1) is capable of loading a test specimen to a maximum load of 60,000 lb. The load applying section of this machine consists of three thick metal plates. The top and the bottom plates are rigidly connected together with thick tie rods. This assembly is connected on the bottom to a hydraulic cylinder which is contained within the base of the machine. This piston is capable of applying a measured upward force to the bottom-top plate assembly. The center plate is connected to a pair of power screws which are operated from within the base of the machine. The vertical position of this middle plate can be adjusted with the power screws but its position is not affected by the hydraulic piston. As a result, a test specimen placed between the bottom and center plates can be placed in compression. A specimen placed between the center and top plates and suitably attached to these Top plate
